The Metal Zone

Ill Omen

Ill Omen has been around for going on 8 years now. Through many line-up changes and also musical style changes we've progressed from a hard rock band into a progressive death metalcore band. Our current lineup is Landon Wilbourne on Guitars, Anthony Houser on Vocals, Cory Patillo on Drums and Zander Ash on bass guitar. We've been playing locally with our current lineup for about 8 months now and are planning to do some inner-state and tri-state touring very soon.

You have shared the stage with most of the metal bands in the roanoke and lynchburg area, if you could play a once in a lifetime show and open for any band of your choice who would it be ?

Number one i know if Landon could choose to open for any band it would probably be Kataklysm and I think the rest of us would agree that they would be an awesome band to open up for. I think if we were talking about a dream-tour situation it would be Despised Icon, Kataklysm, The Faceless, Darkest Hour, Parkway Drive and Through The Eyes Of the Dead.

Severed ties severed heads what was your inspiration for that one just the title alone was worth going in for a listen ?

Severed Ties and Severed Heads was written lyrically about old-best-friends and the every day haters. People or anyone in general who wants to tell you that you can't make it or that what you want to do is unacheivable. Its saying "Eff that" to all the naysayers. Its also about persevering and getting past what other people are saying about you. Thats where the line "i've heard you've been running your mouth again" comes from.

Wildest band show , showcase or road trip ,every band has one memorable moment they will never forget what is yours ?

Most memorable moment to date is probably playing with The Breathing Process each of the two times we have shared the stage with them. The first time was our first show with a major label band and the turnout was awesome and we had a fantastic crowd reaction. It was even better the second time The Breathing Process came through because it was Landon's birthday and we were all tryin to have just a really good time and put on a good show. Mission Accomplished.

What seperates your band from the sea of music out there ?

I think we stand out amongst the local scene because we aren't playing the typical metalcore riffs and going with the nu-metal/hardcore sound. A lot of our music is "in-your-face" and extremely upfront. we're not copying anyone else and we're not just trying to play whats popular now. Each of our songs has a unique feel and a lot of bands today seem to fall into a niche or a category and we can't be summed up that easily.

Where do you want to be musically in 2 years with Ill Omen?

In two years I hope to be on the road touring with some awesome bands, it doesn't matter who its with or where we're at as long as we are on the road and playing shows for people that can connect with our music.
